Born in the Philippines, Ron Ignacio immigrated to the US with his parents. He was only 8 months old at the time. Periodically Ron's parents sent him to his homeland and there he began to learn fighting and defensive arts from his uncles.
Later, while living in California, Ron was introduced to a small gym down the road from his house. Ron spent years training in the gym known today as the IMB Academy which was owned and operated by Richard Bustillo and Dan Inosanto. There he practiced the fighting style of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do. Through JKD Ron was able to become versed in multiple martial arts such as Western Boxing, Wrestling, Judo and many others. Through IMB he studied the Villabrille-Lacoste system of Kali/Eskrima/Arnis.
At the same time, Ron's grandfather Marcelino De Guzman was able to come to the US and stay with Ron. Marcelino, having fought in World War II in the Philippines, went on to teach Ron bladed weapons and other survival tactics used in Philippine martial arts.
Ron has since accomplished extensive training in Muay Thai, Pentjak Silat, Wing Chun and Shaolin Kempo Karate. With over 20 years of martial arts training with numerous famous and non-famous instructors, Ron still continues to learn and develop. Ron enjoys teaching and believes that often his best teacher is his own students.
