The Women's self defense and Jiu-Jitsu program is a six week program designed to increase your awareness, help you avoid dangerous situations and empower you with simple effective self defense techniques. The class is held every Monday night at 6:00pm. The classes are taught in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Avoidance and Awareness
Sometimes, we do not identify potentially dangerous situations until it is too late. Our self defense program includes elements of basic safety that can help a woman recognize possible danger before it escalates into physical attack.
The self defense techniques are designed to help any woman escape from her attacker, whether she is on her feet or on the ground. The techniques are not based on strikes and kicks as are most other self-defense courses for women. Strikes and kicks offer very little chance for success against an assailant who is most likely going to be bigger, stronger and capable of hitting back. Furthermore,they are useless on the ground which is where the attacker will usually carry out his assault. The moves are based on the principles of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and use leverage and technique and do not require strength, speed or coordination. They can therefore be used effectively by women of any age, size, strength or level of physical fitness.
The worst part of an attack situation is the feeling of total helplessness the victim experiences. Our women's self defense program not only empowers a woman physically with simple, effective techniques for an escape, but also psychologically and emotionally by enabling her to maintain the presence of mind necessary to recognize or create an opportunity to get away. Although there are no guarantees that this or any self-defense system will ensure that a woman, if assaulted, will be able to succeed against her attacker, our women's self defense program is based on Gracie Jiu-Jitsu techniques which have been proven effective for over 70 years against other styles of martial arts. You will learn standup Gracie Jiu-Jitsu techniques as well as Jiu-Jitsu concepts that deal with ground situations.
The classes are taught in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. You will learn the self defense techniques and drill them in a relaxed atmosphere until each student is able to execute the techniques effectively. The program consists of six 60 minute classes. New students may join in the program at any time since we rotate the techniques on a scheduled basis. You will learn standing and ground techniques to deal with a myriad of self defense situations. We address the unique needs of women and what they need to know to escape from an encounter with an assailant.
